Here are a few of our top tips for talking with your audience:
- Keep it short. Remember, clear and concise is better than cute and confusing.
- Put the spotlight on your audience. Rather than talking about your passions, your goals, and your accomplishments, talk about the people you serve—their problems, goals, and aspirations.
- Be yourself. When you’re preparing a video, creating written content, or speaking publicly, ask yourself, “Does this sound like me? Would I actually say this to my clients in person?” Genuine communication works much better in business than a false front. People can sniff out phonies fast.
- Set hours when clients can contact you. This way, you can connect with your current and potential clients in a way that works well for you and your people .
The best communicators also happen to be the best listeners.
Helping someone feel truly heard is one of the biggest gifts you can give. Plus, being a great listener is one of the most underrated secrets to success. It’s crucial if you want to continue to grow and strengthen your business.
As Bernard Baruch, one of America’s most famous Wall Street traders, plainly put it, “Most of the successful people I’ve known are the ones who do more listening than talking.”
When you start to listen, you will begin to learn.
Similar to communication, collaboration with your clients is a two-way street. The most effective coaches know how to come alongside and support their clients.
While it’s important to gain the trust of your clients by establishing yourself as a capable and knowledgeable expert in your field, it’s just as important to make them feel like you’re both on the same team. Stand by your clients and make their health journey something you experience together.
What does this collaboration look like? Create opportunities to work through challenges together—even if you have to be remote.
- If your client is struggling to get cardio in, go for a virtual run together and call each other while you both take a lap around your own neighborhoods.
- If healthy eating or cooking from home doesn’t come naturally to them, have a virtual cooking night and show them some of your own favorite health food hacks or time-saving cooking recipes.
Show your clients that you’re there for them and are ready to take their challenges on. Your clients will feel more confident, capable, and motivated knowing you’re there to support them.

When it comes to connecting and engaging with your current and prospective clients, consistency is king. It’s one of the easiest ways to show your audience that you’re dependable and trustworthy.
If a commitment like this stresses you out, we have some good news. Consistent engagement doesn’t mean constant engagement. The important thing is to create a schedule that you can stick to and your clients can count on.
Whether you’re posting on Instagram and answering questions, touching base with a client, or creating a workout video, be consistent. If you follow a regular cadence, your dedicated audience will look forward to it and show up when you do.
